Unilateral Zoning Actions

Should government employees be allowed to change zoning rules without notifying property owners?

When zoning decisions are made behind closed doors, landowners are stripped of their right to be heard and to protect the value and use of their property. In a recent survey we conducted, 91.8% of voters opposed allowing local government employees to change zoning rules without notifying affected property owners in writing.

We believe in a transparent process where landowners are directly informed and actively engaged in the process. Property rights are foundational to our freedom, including the right to know and have a say in what happens to your land and its value.

Financial Recourse

Should property owners have an avenue to seek corrective action to recover financial property value loss due to bureaucratic rezoning?

Nearly 80% of voters we surveyed support new laws that would allow property owners to recover financial damages from cities or towns when rezoning decisions lead to devaluation. Property owners deserve protection when government actions harm the value of their land.

We support legislation that requires local governments to compensate landowners for financial harm caused by downzoning or restrictive land-use changes. Just as eminent domain requires fair compensation, so should any policy that effectively takes value from your property.

"Car-Free Zones" and "Pro-Transit" Mandates

Should local governments enact “car-free” zones or “pro-transit” mandates to restrict car use through zoning mandates?

Nearly two-thirds of the voters we surveyed oppose zoning rules that aim to eliminate cars or force reliance on public transit. While we can embrace smart solutions to traffic congestion, we believe choice and access should never be sacrificed.

Car-free mandates may sound good in theory, but in practice they create burdens for families, workers, and businesses, especially in areas without viable public transit alternatives. We support balanced, community-driven planning that respects an individual’s transportation needs and protects your right to access and use your property.
